I haven't decided if this is going to be my theme song for 2010, part of me hopes it doesn't. I guess we'll have to see. Thanks to Laverne for the suggestion.

Henry Update
Tonight Henry and I finally got together. He sent a text message a couple days ago and we coordinated schedules. Tonight we participated in a class that was part of my Christmas present from him. It was great, educational and yummy. He told me that he had been working extra hours at his night job (did I mention that he works at night?). That's why I haven't seen or heard from him. By the time he is finishing work and going to bed, I am just getting up. He is going to work when I am going to sleep. He did say that he would call me and we can plan another date.
A few things I have learned from this situation. First, dating is not the same now as it was back in college or high school. We both have lives that are busy. I have kids that I am getting to and from school and lessons. He is busy with his music and job. We don't get to see each other everyday or talk all the time we want. Second, I need to stop being neurotic and try to stay calm and level headed. It's when I let my emotions run wild and I start doubting Henry and myself that I get into panic mode and make myself crazy. I just need to be logical about this and know that it will be okay. Third, I realized that I am okay making myself vulnerable to another person. More importantly a male person. I wasn't sure if I would be okay with this. I haven't fully done this, but I realized during this time that I want to do that with Henry. I feel like I've been sort of closed off and not my usual self. I am challenging myself do that now. I'd like to see where this goes and yes, we do need to have a discussion on where he is on all of this relationship stuff.
Since I know that everyone is totally curious about how the evening ended...we had a great hug (not the kissing hug). I feel like I will be ready next time to attempt that. I did almost kiss him on the cheek, but wimped out in the end. I just needed to turn my head a quarter of an inch and I would have, but I think I needed this date to reassure myself of my feelings and his before I attempted anything like that.
Hopefully next time I will be more bold. Like I said before I am a work in progress. I am learning to step outside my comfort zone a little more each time.

This One's For You Laverne
Okay, okay, this really is just for Laverne. I do love a good action movie (although right now the only action I want is a kiss from Henry) hehehe. Laverne if you watch to the 57 second mark you will see why I got this for you. Hope you like it.

Trying to figure out how to make "57" my desktop pic, even though drool might be a hazard to my keyboard. SWEET! Thanks for the pick-me-up.

Excuse Me, Is This Thing On?
Not to sound too neurotic, but Henry hasn't called, text, emailed, smoke signaled, or snail mailed - nothing since New Year's Eve. Did he get sucked into a black hole, fall into a vortex, captured by a aliens who took him to their planet to space probe him, is he in jail and only had one phone call and used it to call someone else to bail him out? Is he dead on the side of the road - because I have driven with him and he is an aggressive driver. Maybe he is off composing beautiful music about me and needs complete solitude to create something amazing. My mind seems to shift back and forth between he isn't interested, he is still interested and is just bad at communicating with people, his thumbs don't work, all of his fingers were broken in a horrible piano accident, or my personal favorite he is trying to find the right words to confess of his undying love for me.
Is it just me or should a guy that refers to me as his "girlfriend" and tells people that we are "dating" and that he isn't dating anyone else (unless he suddenly started at the first of the year), call or something? Sheesh!
Is his phone broken, did he change his mind, does he not understand that I obsess about it? I sit here laughing about it now, because I've learned that if I can't laugh and find humor in all the craziness of dating it would really be depressing. A couple of days ago I was sad and confused. Now I have come to the realization that whatever is occupying Henry's time - and clearly it's not thoughts of me - I'm okay. He may not be the guy for me, but there's someone out there who will be.
However, if he does escape from the aliens or somehow break through the gravitational pull from the black hole and his cell phone starts working again, and his first phone call is to me - I'll let you know. 2010 is already interesting and fun!
I guess to be fair, in Henry's defense...I'm not 100% sure that he understands why I want to talk to him. I wanted to follow up on some past comments and really wanted to let Henry know that I LIKE him. You know not just like him, but LIKE, LIKE him. I finally checked the box YES instead of the maybe that had been passed to me. I know that up to this point I have been holding back and finally feel ready to let go (a little). Let go for me means I may actually touch his arm, compliment him (instead of make fun of his socks), and possibly in the future work up to the kissing hug. Can't he just read my mind and know that I need for him to call me so we can have our discussion and see where it goes? Isn't that how it works? C'mon Henry - CALL ME already!

Dating Rules 2010
So I am officially stealing the title from another blog post called Single-ish. I love the idea of having new dating rules for this brand new year. I still have a few that I am working on such as being more bold and trying to be flirty with the guy that I actually like instead of the ones that I don't.
I like the Dating Coach advice: remember it's just practice and if he doesn't like you someone else will. Move forward with faith not fear.
I am trying to remember that I have probably had the biggest rejection of my life and I survived and I feel more confident now than I ever have. It's a strange twist of fate that one.
New things for me this year: I think it would be better to not follow any rules and go with your instincts and your heart. I'm trying to stop being so afraid of calling guys, putting myself out there and even doing the kissing hug. It's all easier said than done. I may feel more confident, but every now and then a little self doubt creeps back in and I shut down. I am a work in progress and I hope that this year is filled with fun dating stories for you to enjoy. I can guarantee there will be some great awkward clumsy moments. Be sure to check back for more crazy stories.

Starting the New Year off right!
Ok. So, midnight hits and Rick laid one on me. And not just a peck. Great way to start the year!
I guess I could give you a little background, but I'll just sum it up with crazy house party, almost 5000 square feet of shoulder to shoulder crowd, awesome DJ, basement with mirrored walls and projected screen of New Year's Eve countdown, plus great friends to celebrate the New Year with.
Rick and I got separated from the rest of our group just before midnight and because you could barely move around the room, we found a corner for the count down. Before I knew it, once the ball dropped I was grabbed by Rick for a New Year's kiss. So funny. No strings attached - just making the most of the moment. We laughed about it on the drive home.

Happy New Year's!
What did I find out this New Year's? Henry officially labeled me as his "girlfriend". It's kind of a strange twist of events. I say this because every time I have doubts about what I am to him - it conveniently comes up in conversation. I must be living right.
How did it happen? I went to visit Henry at his work (he works at a hotel at night) on New Year's Eve. A family that he knows pretty well was staying and they came down to the lobby and talked to us. During the course of the conversation the wife asked Henry if he had a girlfriend. I started laughing (nerves and just funny). Henry smiled and looked at me like Yeah! She's right there. The wife then said - Oh my gosh you're his girlfriend. You're so cute. Thanks...awkward pause. Then she said isn't Henry great. He's so adorable. I really started laughing now. Henry doesn't love that fact that ladies think he is adorable. I love it. I said, he is adorable. I like that he is adorable. I love that word when used to describe people.
I also established that Henry isn't dating anyone but me. These are all good things. Now my question is: Why hasn't he kissed me yet? I know now that I am ready for him to lay one on me. I am trying to figure out how to subtly let him know that I would like a kiss. We've dated for a while now and if I am his "girlfriend" then what's the hold up. I've gotten to meet some of his family, friends, visited him at work, cooked him dinner, but no kissing.
I don't know if it's because we haven't been very touchy feely. I can be with other guys that don't matter to me, but with him, I totally freeze up. I am practicing the kissing hug. I've asked a few different guys if they would get the message and so far all of them agree. If I do the hug, he will understand. Check back to see if I get brave.
